Edvard Munch with his mother Laura Cathrine Munch in 1864. She died when he was 5 years old, a sorrow he was to be deeply affected by for the rest of his life

Aunt Karen Bjølstad, Laura Munchs younger sister. When Edvard lost his mother, her sister Karen Bjølstad assumed responsibility for bringing up the children. She moved in with the family and eventually also received an offer of marriage from Edvard Munch's father. But she turned it down; she wanted to help, but not to be a stepmother

Edvard Munch was a Norwegian artist. He was the nephew of Peter Andreas Munch. Edvard Munch is Norway's greatest artist. He came to constitute an important source of inspiration for German Expressionism. He 's best known work is The Scream (actually, four images of the same subject). One of the largest collections of Munch's works outside Norway are on the Thiel Gallery in Stockholm

Munch found inspiration for the painting The Sick Girl in his sister Sophie Johanne's death from tuberculosis, only fifteen years old. In this work he gives samples of the neurotic expressionism which he used to reinforce the image of reality. The painting there are at least six varieties. Wikipedia
